THE MILLENIUM ASIDE, NOW ELIAN KNOWS ABOUT A REAL CHRISTMAS! By Pura Castilla, Cuba Free Press.
Ciego de Avila.- The return of young Elian Gonzalez has turned into a popular controversy. Some say the boy must return to his father and other family in Cuba but one said, "Why would they return him here if he also has family there and most of all he has freedom there? He may be too young to really understand what is going on but if he returns he is going to notice a big change. Soon, the communist harassment will start and the manipulations of him by all the official political organizations. This boy, whom an angel in heaven saved from the waters, didn’t even know what Christmas is all about. Now he has had the chance to get to know its meaning.”
Another said, “As for the parent’s right, so much discussed by the Cuban government and some who call themselves Christians, that ‘right’ ends when he starts middle school and then is sent by force to the schools in the countryside until he turns 16 and then is signed up as a ‘pre-recruit.’
"When he finishes high school, he will be sent by force into compulsory military service. No parent may refuse that, not even with a medical leave, since the youths are forced to serve one year at least wherever they are assigned if they want to go on to get a professional degree. Those who don’t serve are not allowed to enter the university.”
Said another, “Elian only has one more year to go before the government stops his allotted half a liter of milk. Even though almost nine years have gone by for me I can still remember bitterly the words of my grandson when he turned seven and his allotment was stopped. ‘Mom,’ he said, ‘they only left milk for my little brother. The milkman says I can’t get it anymore!’
“Such is the gift that children in Cuba get upon turning seven. And beef? He’ll get only four ounces every three months. The saddest part is that if Elian returns he will be raised as an atheist, this after having been saved by the hand of God.”
