POLICE PATROLMEN RELEASE CITIZEN BUT NOT SEVEN POUNDS OF BEEF. By Basilio López Iriaborne, Guanabacoa activist of the Human Rights Party, for Cuba Free Press.

Guanabacoa.- Local police patrolmen in Car No. 438 intercepted the auto driven by citizen Manuel Cortínez Nápoles the afternoon of Dec. 14 and searched the car. The police found seven pounds of fresh beef, which can be evidence of a crime if the bearer can’t produce certain papers.

Cortinez said he was surprised when the patrolmen took him to their station but lodged no charges against him and then returned him to his car so he could continue to his destination – his home.

As for the meat, it was not returned to the citizen, who does not know its final destination. Citizens of Guanabacoa report that such incidents – police ‘disappearance’ of edible food – occur frequently.
