CUBAN POLITICAL POLICE BEAT PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATORS. By Armando Añel, Cuba Free Press.
HAVANA.- At about 10:30 in the morning today Friday, some twenty State Security officers dressed in civilian clothes beat and arrested four peaceful opposition members who were walking towards El Rincon, in Santiago de las Vegas, alongside a procession which is celebrated this year on the day of Saint Lazarus.
Opposition members Marcel Valenzuela, from the Movement Civic Brotherhood, Carlos Oquendo, from the Peace, Love, and Freedom Movement, José Aguiar, from the July 13th Movement, and Diosdado González, also from the Civic Brotherhood group, were marching wearing white t-shirts onto which they had written in black letters, a demand for the release of all political prisoners. The political police agents, who had been following them for more than a kilometer, pounced on them and beat them.
The four arrested men, who had chained themselves together in a symbolic act, were punched and kicked by the agents who dragged them into a car with a private tag.
>From the ground, as they were being attacked, the opposition members started shouting demands for the release of all prisoners of conscience at the same time as the agents were shouting Vivas to Fidel Castro in a useless attempt to involve the bystanders in the incident.
