DESPITE THREATS, INDEPENDENT UNION DELEGATES HOLD THEIR MEETING By José Orlando González Bridón, Cuba Free Press.
HAVANA - On the afternoon of Nov. 29, an officer from the Cuban Office of State Security (OSS) known as "Ulises" arrived at the home of Mrs. Miriam Cantillo Ramos in Guinera when several independent union members were visiting. The visitors were a delegation of the Confederation of Democratic Workers of Cuba in Arroyo Naranjo. Miriam also is a delegate.
The OSS officer confronted the group with an attempt at an overpowering stance and warned those present not to attend their planned activity at the Baragua Farm, site of the Frank Pais Democratic Party office, on Nov. 30 to commemorate another anniversary of the founding of the party.
Those at the meeting included Yovana González, Maritza del Valle Puerto, Sara Salvia, Emilio Cruz Iglesias and Eugenio Güitrón San Martín. They ignored the OSS officer's warning and attended the planned activity at the Baragua Farm. "We are exercising our free will and civilian rights," according to a statement given to this reporter by Miriam Cantillo.
