GOVERNMENT AGENTS WATCH RELIGIOUS MASS IN SANTA BARBARA CHURCH By José Orlando González Bridón, Cuba Free Press.

SANTA BARBARA - Many government agents gathered at the Santa Barbara Catholic Church the afternoon of Nov. 21 to watch members and leaders of several opposition groups, independent labor unions and human rights organizations during a mass held by Cardinal Jaime Ortega in celebration of the reopening of the church after its remodeling.

According to Yohana González Herrera, an activist for STDC (name not given)which participated in the mass representing her organization, more than 50 Office of State Security (OSS) agents and members of the Rapid Response Brigades arrived, watching the mass with a threatening appearance.

Yohana said the presence of the agents showed the government feared there would be demonstrations against the government, either before or after the mass. She said the agents tried to harass the people psychologically so as to prevent any such actions. When the mass ended, government agents followed some of the dissidents to their homes and remained in their neighborhoods for as much as three hours.
