GOVERNMENT AGENTS GIVE DISSIDENTS UNWANTED RIDE OUT OF TOWN By Margarita Yero, Cuba Free Press.
SANTIAGO - The government's political police briefly arrested three dissidents Oct. 20 and released them some distance outside the city, leaving them to work out the problem of how to get home, perhaps even using Cuba's precarious transport system.
Early in the morning, police picked up Adel Jiménez Cintra, 41, Eddy Alfredo Mena González, 31, and Raimundo Pelegrino Ramírez, 31, all members of the Cuban Movement of Youth for Democracy. The three had planned to hold a commemorative activity in Céspedes park, across from the Catholic Cathedral in central Santiago.
After questioning them for a short time, police transported Jiménez to the vicinity of Mar Verde prison, 15 kilometers (1.61x15=more than 24 miles) from Santiago, and released him. Similarly, they released Mena at a place known as La Ensenada, 11 kilometers (1.61x11=nearly 18 miles) from town and Pelegrino near Aguadores prison, 5 kilometers (about 8 miles) from the center of the city.
