PRISONERS HIDDEN FROM DIGNITARIES By Alberto Iglesias, Cuba Free Press.

HAVANA - When Gen. Juan Escalona Requera, the government's chief prosecutor, visited the prison at Kilometer 5-1/2 in Pinar del Río province in western Cuba, he missed seeing 134 of the prisoners confined there.

Authorities at the prison were concerned that some of the inmates would complain to Escalona and other high officials from the Ministry of Justice and the National Directorate of Prisons about abuses and conditions at the facility. So they confined the prisoners in an area that the dignitaries were not scheduled to visit: the pigsties.
