GOVERNMENT THREATENS THOSE WHO FISH WITHOUT AUTHORIZATIONS By Alida Viso Bello, Cuba Free Press.

HAVANA - Government agents in Granma province in eastern Cuba threaten to levy fines of 5,000 pesos and confiscate boats and equipment in an effort to curb unauthorized fishing.

The new ruling will affect more than 400 heads of household who depend on fishing for a living. Employment opportunities have been scarce in the region.

"A lot of women and children who depend on their fishermen relatives are going to go hungry over this," said Juan Rodríguez Pantoja, 45, and he added, "Now these men will have to steal."
