SOME 50 SELF-EMPLOYED WORKERS RETURN LICENSES DUE TO HARASSMENT By Alberto Iglesias, Cuba Free Press.

HAVANA - In the last few days about 50 self-employed workers in Pinar del Río province have renounced their licenses to make and sell foodstuffs at home. They said they were subjected to excessive regulatory pressure.

The workers said they were required to pay high taxes and license fees, had too many inspections by the Public Health Department and by the Directorates of Finance, of Commerce and Foodstuffs and by the National Office of Revenue Administration and most recently also by the National Police. The police also acquired jurisdiction to inspect the production and storage of items in the homes of the workers.
