OSS AGENTS SEIZE JOURNALIST'S EQUIPMENT By Mary Miranda, Cuba Free Press.
HAVANA - Political police agents of the Office of State Security (OSS) seized a tape recorder and a camera from independent journalist Santiago Santana, 36, in Santiago de Cuba on Sunday (Sept. 26).
Santana, director of the Eastern Free Press Agency, was headed to the city's cathedral to cover an event when he was detained by several OSS agents near Santiago's CÚspedes park.
The agents took Santana to a police unit where they questioned him for three hours and took his property. The authorities asked him to produce ownership documents for the camera and tape recorder if they were to consider returning them to him. Santana said he did not have such papers since foreign colleagues traveling through the city gave the equipment to him.
