HAVANA - A man who took up spear-fishing as a way to feed his family drowned Thursday (Sept. 16) afternoon off Villa el Salado beach on the outskirts of Havana.

Jesús Alejandro Escobar had participated in various national and international tournaments as an oarsman. When his son was born, he took up free-dive fishing to support his family. He was 29.
