MANAGER NOTES UNPRECEDENTED THEFTS IN DOLLAR STORE By Jorge Diego Rodríguez Delgado, Cuba Free Press.
HAVANA - Theft from "dollar stores" in Havana may be a growth industry. Through July of this year, 194 cases of theft have been documented at the "Ultra" store in central Havana, according to Carlos Válido, its general manager. The most popular items are shoes, clothing and food, Válido said.
So far this year, three cases have gone to court involving employees of "Ultra," one of the principal establishments operating in the dollar economy in Havana. Official documents in the cases listed $6,000 missing along with a "substantial" quantity of chickens.
