PHYSICIANS WILL FIND IT DIFFICULT TO LEAVE CUBA By Juan Carlos Recio, Cuba Free Press
HAVANA — Exit authorizations for physicians wishing to leave Cuba could take from three to five years, according to the latest government regulations. Luis Ovidio, public health director in Villa Clara province, said physicians who solicit permission to emigrate will be immediately reassigned by the Public Health Ministry for a period of three to five years. At the end of that time, the authorities would grant the permit if they determined that the applicant had worked satisfactorily.
The regulations also suspended temporary visits abroad. Physicians will only be allowed to attend conventions and other events abroad that bring hard currency to the country.
