HEALTH OF PROMINENT DISSIDENT, MARTA BEATRIZ ROQUE WORSENS By Graciela Alfonso, Cuba Free Press.
HAVANA - Political prisoner Marta Beatriz Roque Cabello, age 54, who has been on a hunger strike since July 16, has shown signs of physical deterioration recently, according to information provided by Ileana Someillan, a representative of the Support Committee.
A press release says Roque Cabello, president of the Cuban Institute of Independent Economists and co-signer of the document "The Motherland Belongs to All of Us," has been suffering from serious gastrointestinal complications, stomach cramps and fatigue.
The source indicated that the opposition member is being kept in the hospital in a walled-in cell. The dissident issued a statement in which she indicated that she will engage in stronger measures on September 2 which will involve intensifying her protest in what she has called "A Silence for Irony" if she doesn't get a reply to her appeal to the Supreme Court. That appeal was made 4-1/2 months ago.
Marta Beatriz has lost 16 pounds during her hunger strike.
