GOVERNMENT DENIES PATIENT FREE AMBULANCE RIDE; PEOPLE PROTEST By Ricardo González Alfonso, Cuba Free Press.
HAVANA - More than 40 people complained last Friday at Bayamo's "Carlos Manuel de Céspedes" Hospital. The administration had denied the transfer of one Cuban patient between provinces but authorized the same service to a foreigner - who paid.
Jesús Labrador, territory reporter for this agency, informed us that the responsible party in charge of the ambulance service at the hospital did not allow a cancer patient to be transferred to "Vladimir Ilich Lenin" hospital in Holguín, 30 kilometers (about 19 miles) away for a biopsy.
The reporter said the Bayamo Hospital administrative personnel said the ambulances were not allowed to travel to other provinces. That same Friday a Spanish patient paid for the service and was transferred to Havana, about 1,000 kilometers (625 miles) away.
