GOVERNMENT AGENTS HARASS DISSIDENT SANTIAGO CHRISTIANS By Ricardo González Alfonso, Cuba Free Press.
HAVANA - Government police continue the crackdown against backers of the Christian Liberation Movement (MCL) in the Palmarito de Cauto section of Mella, Santiago province.
On July 22, uniformed agents demanded identification from, searched, interrogated and imposed fines on several members of the opposition organization. Agents of the Department of the Interior burst into the home of Luis Enrique and José Daniel García Ferrer, ages 22 and 29 respectively, on 7th Street, Loma Blanca, Palmarito de Cauto. The agents seized a poster that read "The truth will make us free," and another that read "The country is for everyone," illustrated with photos of Marta Beatriz Roque, Vladimiro Roca, Félix Bonne and René Gómez Manzano, authors of the essay.
That same day, police searched the Margarita Hidalgo house adjacent to the García Ferrer brothers' house and seized documents of the Christian Liberation Movement and the Young Cubans for Democracy Movement.
Department of Interior agents seized identity papers of MCL activist Reinaldo Rodríguez Curdiala, 23, and took him to a state facility where they insulted and threatened him. Agents imposed a 30-peso fine against Rodríguez Curdiala for supposed resistance.
