DISSIDENT COUPLE GOES INTO EXILE IN UNITED STATES By Graciela Alfonso, Cuba Free Press.
HAVANA - Dr. Iraida de León León, advisor of the Independent Medical College, and her husband, former political prisoner Rolando Martínez Valdés left Cuba to go into exile in the United States today as refugees.
Dr. León was president of the college until a few months ago when she was relieved of her responsabilities. Until she left, she attended as a professional the people taking part in the fast at 34 Tamarindo street.
Martínez Valdés, member of the Cuban Commission for Human Rights and National Reconciliation, spent 12 years as a political prisoner.
Government authorities held their exit permission for more than a year before allowing them to leave.
