STATIONS OF THE CROSS OF SILENCE OCCURS WITH NO PERMIT! Luis Ramon Hernandez, Cuba Free Press.

Santa Clara.- The religious ceremonial procession called Stations of the Cross carried out here Friday, April 14 had special characteristics. The attributes typical of this ceremony such as the cross and incense were not present. The priests did not wear their habits and everything took place in great silence.

Local church officials had decided not to ask for a permit from the local government to hold the procession because they thought it would be denied. So the church people decided they would simply have the procession.

They felt the government could not prohibit them from marching in silence from parish to parish. And they were right. In the rain and without permission, hundreds of the faithful participated.
