CAPT. CARDOSO HARASSES CUBA FREE PRESS JOURNALIST By Antonio Soto, Cuba Free Press.
Placetas.- I was harassed by telephone four times from 2:30 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. by the Cuban State Security chief of operations for the municipality of Placetas. He said he was Capt. Cardoso. During his phone calls, this captain talked about the visit I was expecting Friday morning from Marcos Yanes, member of a peaceful opposition group.
According to Capt. Cardoso, Yanes would arrive with other people from Sancti Spíritus bringing me reports. He named the others as Reimundo Perdigón Brito and Orlando Visiedo Pacheco. Not saying how he knew so much, Capt. Cardoso said that if people came to my house Friday, he would arrest them all.
He did not mention anybody by name as potential arrestees. To me that meant that anybody who might come to my house on Friday was an object of Captain Cardoso's threats. After his four phone calls in early morning hours, I had no doubt that Capt. Cardoso was really interested in preventing anybody from visiting me even though I have a right to accept visits from anybody.
And as a journalist, I have the power and right to deliver the news and to report events happening in this area and in this, my country.
