SS AGENT ORDERS LAWYER NOT TO ATTEND DISSIDENTS'MEETINGS IF HE WANTS FREEDOM FROM JAIL. By Haydée Rodríguez, Cuba Free Press.
Santiago de Cuba, April 10.- On April 6, lawyer Orestes Rodríguez Orroutinier was freed from the Boniato provincial prison where he was serving a four-year prison sentence for the “crime” of "conveying enemy propaganda". His freedom is “conditional,” according to what he was told by State Security (SS) officer Juan Carlos Rodríguez Tabares, since the lawyer is being pressed to leave the country within three months.
Officer Rodríguez Tabares ordered him not to attend any meetings or go to churches or get involved in any other activity with dissidents. Rodríguez Orroutinier, 42, still has seven months left to serve of his jail sentence. He told the officer he is Catholic and hopes to continue attending mass. But if he does not comply with the conditions of his release, he will be sent back to prison to serve the remaining time.
