DEAN HUBBARD AND OTHER U.S. LABOR LAWYERS VISIT VILLA CLARA. By Luis Ramon Hernandez, Cuba Free Press.
Santa Clara.- A delegation of labor lawyers who are advisors to various labor unions in the United States visited the province of Villa Clara on March 1. The delegation, headed by Dean Hubbard of New York, had been invited by the Cuban Workers Confederation (CTC).
The delegation met at various work centers in the provincial capital with officials of the government's labor movement, jurists and union members with whom they shared "experiences and opinions."
This delegation did not meet with any independent unions but only with officially-sanctioned unions.
The government media did not divulge what experiences and opinions the visitors shared or exchanged with the Cuban officials or what conclusions the delegation reached or if they had the chance to find out by word of mouth about the real situation of the Cuban worker. Were ordinary workers able to discuss their misery and exploitation, the unfair compensation, the lack of rights such as the right to strike, the mandatory dues required and the employment in conditions of slavery? Did they find out about the payments to the government by joint companies operated by foreigners, with the workers receiving only part of the payment and the Cuban government keeping the rest?
