HOMELESS PEOPLE IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM! WHAT'S GOING ON HERE? By Migdalia Rosado of Tamarindo 34 Human Rights Group, for Cuba Free Press.
Havana.- Several Cubans who say they are homeless have been finding shelter In the emergency quarters of La Dependiente Hospital on October 10 Turnpike (Calzada de 10 de Octubre). Beggars by day, they get in the way of patient care by night. Outstanding among them is a lady named Mirta who frequently starts arguing with patients.
Besides sleeping there at night, Mirta also bathes in the hospital. She says she has no place to live and neither do the others joining her.
Some people have suggested that instead of building so many hotels and apartments for tourism, perhaps the government could build a place for the homeless where they could spend their remaining days.
