MARTI COMMITTEE CALLS FOR RELEASE OF OSCAR ELIAS BISCET AND ENDING FURTHER TRIALS OF HIM AND MIGDALIA ROSADO. By Roberto Larramendi, Cuba Free Press.
Havana.- Ricardo Barban, Havana coordinator of the Marti Committee for the Rights of Man, released a statement to Cuba Free Press which calls on Cuban authorities to release Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet from jail and not to unjustly prosecute him and this writer, as they indicated they will do.
Moreover, the document expresses the committee's wish that the "criminal" charges be divulged to the world, especially in Latin America. The committee says the charges make "ridiculous accusations of activities which in most parts of the world are perfectly legal and moreover are protected" by most governments.
The statement adds, "To protest against anything, privately or publicly, is an inalienable right of all people. If these protests are against abortion and the death penalty, the right is double, since it is a matter of fighting against the selfsame death."
