ANONYMOUS ATTACKER KNOCKS INDEPENDENT REPORTER SENSELESS By Migdalia Rosado of the Tamarindo 34 Human Rights Group for Cuba Free Press.

Havana.- An unknown attacker who did not speak a word struck Mary Miranda, Cuba Press reporter, in the head yesterday evening as she walked along a street in the Vedado neighborhood and left her unconscious for some 20 minutes. She also suffered cuts on the face but although one wound was bleeding, the hospital authorities did not close the cut with stitches. The blow to the head has left her with a continuous ache.

Miranda said she saw the male attacker, of dark complexion, but did not recognize him. She said she was wearing some gold jewelry but was not robbed. She did not know what weapon he used except that it was hard.

The authorities did not investigate the attack. This is the same journalist who recently was detained by government agents and struck by a police officer when she was told to put her hands behind her back.
