29 DIFFERENT URBAN AREAS HAVE PEOPLE JOINING THOSE WHO FAST FOR FREEDOM By Ricardo González Alfonso, Cuba Free Press.
HAVANA - The San Juan and Martinez provincial delegation of the Human Rights Party which is affiliated with the Andrei Sajarov Foundation, and members of the Cuban Committee of Human Rights and the Aguada de Pasajeros (name of city) Human Rights Party have joined the hunger fast initiated Monday, June 7, here in the capital and join the demand for the freedom of the political prisoners and respect for human rights on the island.
Presently there are people in 29 towns and cities in Cuba who are participating in the civic resistance. These urban areas are in 12 of Cuba's 14 provinces.
Lázaro García Cernuda, general secretary of the Human Rights Party said 14 activists of dissident organizations have been fasting since June 7. They have shifts changing every 12 hours until the 40 days planned by the organizers in the capital city are completed.
Irán González, Cuba Free Press reporter, said 10 local dissidents, activists of the Cuban Human Rights party and the Cuban Committee of Human Rights met together and started a 24-hour fast at 56 Agramonte St.
Presently there are fasters ("ayunantes") in Herradura, Guane, San Juan and Martínez, the city of Havana, Matanzas, The Roque, Placetas, Aguada de Pasajeros, Santi Spiritus, Ciego de Avila, Morón, Punta Alegre, Fomentos, Manguitos, Bayamo, Manzanillo, Yara, Troya, Campechuela, Santiago, Palma Soriano, Palmarito, Las Tunas, Puerto Padre, Gibara, Antillas, San Germán, Baracoa and Guantánamo.
