ARMAGNAC HOUSE, SANTIAGO, SITE OF THE HISTORIC HUNGER STRIKE By José Ramón Gabriel Castillo, Cuba Free Press.
SANTIAGO - The Commission for Fellow Hunger Strikers, which was created by the Independent Project Institute for Culture and Democracy, issued a statement yesterday morning that the Armagnacs' "big house" has been declared the official site of the Fellow Hunger Strikers.
This initiative of the members of the Lawton Foundation and members of other opposition groups in the capital has been growing in strength at the other end of the island here in Santiago.
"All those who wish to join the hunger strike can count on the moral and material support of our members. They will be welcomed as fellow, that is, as sister and brothers," according to Angel Adolfo Armagnac, president of the commission.
The big house has been arranged to accommodate the strikers. In the area reserved for the strikers there is a bible with several passages singled out. One of them, by Saint Matthew says, "You, when you fast, wash your face and fix yourself well so that people won't notice that you're fasting. Only your Father, who is with you, will notice it and give you your reward."
The commission has been working for several days. Members already have several requests and next weekend will be receiving the first hunger strikers at the mentioned site. Armagnac stated that it is very likely that as more people learn of its availability, more strikers will be joining the protest. The momentum of this civil protest is growing.
