DISSIDENT LEADERS CONTINUE FASTING AT PROVINCIAL CAPITAL By Ricardo González Alfonso, Cuba Free Press.
HAVANA - Activists of the Cuban Committee for Human Rights and of the Democratic Solidarity Party in Ciego de Avila (provincial capital) who have been participating in a fast for civil rights scheduled a meeting for this afternoon at 6 p.m. in a private house in Ciego de Avila to read psalms and pray. They expect this may be a daily occurrence.
Pedro Argüelles, Cuba Free Press correspondent in the area, said the fasting "avileños" (abreviated name for residents of the city) also met this past Sunday on the street C,212 between the streets named José María Agramonte and Fernando Callejas - in the Los Angeles community of the provincial capital
These dissidents, like others in many parts of the country, are abstaining from food to show support for the release of all Cuba's political prisoners and respect for human rights.
The fast, during which they take only liquids and vitamins during 40 days, was begun by a group of peaceful critics of the regime on June 7 on Tamarindo 34 street in Havana itself.
