FIVE OFFICERS BEAT YOUNG CIVILIAN AT MARKET, ALSO GET POUND OF BEANS By Graciela Alfonso, Cuba Free Press.

HAVANA - As citizens shouted, "Abusers, cowards, don't beat him!," five government officers dressed in civilian clothes beat 20-year-old Yoendris Ramírez Rodríguez at "La Cava" market in Manzanillo.

Four officers held the youth on the ground while one beat him on the face until some of the witnesses nearby jumped the officers to stop the beating.

The officers didn't arrest the young man who, allegedly, was engaged in the illegal sale of beans. This report reached Cuba Free Press from Jesus Labrador Arias, agency correspondent in that region.

Cuba Free Press also learned that Manuel de Jesus Reina Castillo and Artilio Antunez, peaceful members of an unidentified opposition group, were arrested and held for more than four and a half hours and were fined 500 pesos because, allegedly, they were engaged in illegal commerce. Each was arrested at "La Cava" market and one pound of beans was confiscated.
