EXCEPT FOR COMMUNISTS, MAJORITY OF YOUTHS GO UNEMPLOYED By Ariel Tapia, Cuba Free Press/
HAVANA - Official Cuban statistics show youth unemployment at 60 percent. But the Union of Communist Youth, which has always been careful to be viewed as a model, has only 6.4 percent jobless.
The executive board of the youth organization ordered its militant members to stand firm against tendencies of laziness and the poor inclination to work for the meager salaries offered by the state.
Still another call for "ideological conscience" was made to the youth who work in the tourism sector in the eastern province of Holguin. The communists in leadership positions are asking themselves why so many youth who find jobs in the hotels and thus have access to dollars, don't seem interested in joining the ranks of the Union of Communist Youth.
