PROTECTION PROMISE GOES ON THE RECORD By Ariel Tapia, Cuba Free Press
HAVANA - Even as many Cuban homes are experiencing exploding croquettes, which are sold at government-run stores, Interior Commerce Minister Barbara Castillo travels the country talking about topics such as consumer protection.
She visited Ciego de Avila last week where she asserted, "Protecting the consumer means saving him from being taken in, being watchful of the hygiene of the consumer units and giving him information, among other things." The official assured the public that her office has tripled its inspections and has created areas of protection where consumer complaints are handled.
Although consumers haven't as yet seen the results of this, Mrs. Castillo said, "We have embarked on a tough struggle for internal controls but it will be a long one…."
