EARTHQUAKE SHAKES SANTIAGO AND SURROUNDINGS By Ricardo González Alfonso, Cuba Free Press.
HAVANA - An earthquake shook Santiago de Cuba today at 7:37 a.m. It drove people out of their homes. The senior residents categorized the earthquake as very intense, according to Santiago Santana of the Free Press Agency of the East (APLO).
Jose Vidal from the Santiago neighborhood of Marmol told this reporter, "Everyone on the streets was saying, yes, this one was a strong one, a very strong one. It was like standing atop a table that is being shaken violently."
Vivian Acosta, a resident of Palma Soriano, about 47 kilometers (30.2 miles) from Santiago de Cuba, said, "The earthquake woke me. It was certainly strong but not one of the worst."
Cuba Free Press will report further on material damages and the level of intensity on the Richter scale as information becomes available.
