HAVANA - The first anniversary of the Felix Varela Independent Library in the northeastern province of Las Tunas was celebrated with a cultural activity.

Berta Mexidor Vázquez, the center's manager, presented gifts to the most assiduous readers and rendered tribute to the poet and journalist Raúl Rivero who donated the most editions to this unusual library that is free from state control.

Among those present was Fernando Sánchez López, president of the banned Democratic Solidarity Party.
