SANTIAGANS TOLD TO RETURN RICE BECAUSE OF CONTAMINATION By Ricardo Gonzalez Alfonso, Cuba Free Press.
HAVANA -- There was much cause for concern in Santiago, near the far east end of the island when people heard the news last weekend that part of the ration of rice sold for use in March had been found to be contaminated.
As a result, many food stores in the city put up signs urging people to bring back the rice so it could be exchanged for grain that was safer to eat.
According to one news source, when magnets had been passed over the rice they had detected metal particles. There was no other explanation.
