LITTLE PIERCINGS COULD BECOME BIG PROBLEMS By Tania Quintero, Cuba Free Press.
HAVANA - The latest issue of the scientific supplement to the government's periodical, "Rebel Youth" ("Juventud Rebelde"), contained four photographs of Cubans who have adopted the custom - qualified as "primitive" - of putting rings through their navel, nose and other parts of the body.
The article warned that the practice might result in dangers to the ring bearer because most of the practitioners who sell the rings use equipment that is not sterile. Among the serious consequences might be the prospect of contracting one of the hepatitis viruses or even AIDS.
