GOVERNMENT SETS DATE FOR TRIAL OF CUBA PRESS CORRESPONDENT AND THREE OTHER DISSIDENTS By Odalys Curbello.
HAVANA - The government has set March 25 as the date for the trial of Cuba Free Press correspondent Manuel Antonio González Castellanos and three other dissidents: Leonardo Varona González (nephew of the Cuba Free Press correspondent), former political prisoner Roberto Rodríguez Rodríguez and Joanys Varona González., independent journalist in the Santiago Press group.
González Castellanos, Varona González and Rodríguez Rodríguez all have been charged with "disrespect" for the commandant, Fidel Castro, in case No. 50 of 1998. González Castellanos and his nephew have been in the provisional prison of Holguín since October 1, 1998.
The prosecution in this case has asked for three years of jail for the Cuba Free Press reporter, two years for the Santiago correspondent and 18 months for the other two.
