OSS AGENTS RELEASE RAÚL RIVERO SECOND TIME, WITH THREAT OF 20 YEARS IN PRISON By Odalys Curbelo, Cuba Free Press.
HAVANA - A few hours after they arrested him for the second time in a week, agents of the Office of State Security (OSS) again released Cuba Press director, poet and independent journalist Raúl Rivero late tonight.
They had taken him to the meeting room on the 20th floor of the Havana Riviera hotel and harshly threatened him many times. Then they took him in an OSS auto to a place near 23rd street in the community of El Vedado.
He had been harassed and threatened repeatedly since mid-day by an officer calling himself "Oscar" or "Omar" who urged him to join him for an "exchange of opinions."
The poet told the agent that he could not join him because his mother, who lives with him, is not of good health and he could not leave her alone. Rivero's wife, Blanca Reyes, is away from Havana because of problems in her family.
After about an hour, the OSS official broke off phone contact and later went to Rivero's apartment and arrested him and took him away in a white Lada. At the hotel "meeting," OSS officials Omar, Aramís and Luis Mariano took turns berating him.
"We are going to apply the law (the new gag law adopted by the Cuban assembly) to the full extent," they warned. "And you are going to be the first who will be taken prisoner," said agent Aramís, adding that the minimum sentence will be 20 years.
Rivero said, "I am going to keep writing. It is my right. Nobody can order me what to do with my life."
Sometime after 11 p.m., after he had arrived home, Rivero's telephone was cut off so no further such contact could be made.
