POET AND INDEPENDENT JOURNALIST RAÚL RIVERO MISSING From the Editors of Cuba Free Press.
MIAMI - The poet and journalist Raúl Rivero, director of the independent news agency, Cuba Free Press is missing since early this morning.
Beginning Feb. 26, a wave of arrests began in Havana which in the opinion of local observers and diplomatic sources netted more than 30 people.
Among the correspondents working with Rivero, the following were being held as of March 1 by government police agencies in various places in Havana and elsewhere on the island: Odalys Curbelo, Juan Antonio Sánchez, Orlando Bordón, Efrén Martínez Pulgarón, Marvin Hernández Monzón. Journalist Ricardo González Alfonso is also missing.
Rivero left his house early in the morning. He was supposed to phone his wife, Blanca Reyes, as soon as he reached his destination. As of 4 p.m., today, March 1, his wife contacted Cuba Free Press and said she was certain that her husband had been placed under arrest.
