A CUBAN JOURNALIST MAKES HIS DECLARATION By Juan Antonio Sánchez, Cuba Free Press.
HAVANA - After listening to the pronouncements of the Cuban government about the law for the "Protection of the Independence and the Economy of Cuba," I continue with my decision to be a journalist outside the state control, because the law is in itself irrational, out of any logic, and violates the most elemental rights of man.
In my condition as a civil citizen and with the right to think as taught to us by Father Félix Varela, and under the inspiration of the ideals of freedom of our Apostle José Martí, I do not accept the insults of "mercenary," "corsair," and other qualifiers that the government has hung on us. We are alternative journalists, outside any partisan affiliation, and have been faithful communicators of the Cuban reality.
Because of all of the above, I say that I will remain within the ranks of independent journalism.
