STONES INCLUDED AMONG WEAPONS USED AGAINST POLITICALLY INCORRECT Por Margarita Yero, Cuba Free Press.
SANTIAGO - Among weapons in the government arsenal against certain of the politically incorrect - especially former political prisoners - are stones. Pedro Goyanes Ceballos, 45, told this reporter that last November 21, when he was walking with his wife outside his house, a group of unknown individuals, stoned them, forcing them to look for safety in a nearby house.
Pedro Goyanes was in prison for 18 months - from June 16, 1992 until November 26, 1993 - on charges of disseminating enemy propaganda and sabotage.
He says in is being harrassed and threatened almost constantly by police intelligence agents and members of the Committee for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) whether he is in his home or at any other place.
Last Dec. 29, Pedro Vazquez, an officer of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) appeared at Goyanes' home in Rio Cauto, in the Granma province, acompanied by another agent. They used insulting language in attacking Goyanes and threatened to arrest him because "he was selling shrimp."
The government authorizes the selling of this shellfish - or of beef, coffee and a long list of other products - only to certain selected establishments. The sale of such articles is forbidden to the non-privileged class citizens.
