MUNICIPAL COURT SENTENCES DISSIDENT TO "CORRECTIONAL" FORCED LABOR By Juan Antonio Sánchez, Cuba Free Press.
HAVANA - The municipal court of the town of El Cerro sentenced dissident Abel Martínez Armenteros to six months of "correctional" forced labor on charges of having shown contempt for authority.
The court found, among other things, that the accuser, an ex-official of the Ministry of Interior (MININT), Joaquín Severo González, had launched his car towards the defendant and that this provoked an incident.
Cuba Free Press reporter Iván García, who was at the court, said that officials of the Office of State Security (OSS) and more than 20 paramilitary troops were gathered in front of the court during the trial in a show of force against possible dissidence.
On the same day, the court was scheduled to hear details in connection with charges against dissident Julia Cecilia Delgado González and her son Francisco, but that case was suspended.
Martínez Armenteros and Delgado González are members of the 30th of November Frank Pais Democratic Party.
Meanwhile, it was learned that earlier in the day, an officer known as "Afredo" arrested two other party members, Maritza Lugo and Marianela Alpízar, and Ana Maria Agramonte of the Independent Democratic Action Movement. No further details were obtained.
