JAILED JOURNALIST INTERRUPTS HUNGER STRIKE By Raúl Rivero, Cuba Free Press.
HAVANA - After 11 days without food or water, independent journalist Jesús Joel Díaz Hernández, 25, abandoned his hunger strike on Jan. 28 in the Canaleta prison in Ciego de Avila
He was arrested and tried in a lightning-like process for the crime of being considered "dangerous" to the government. The government court sentenced him to four years in prison.
He began his refusal to take nourishment to protest his sentence immediately after his being imprisoned.
His family begged him Thursday to abandon the strike, since the appeal of his trial was rejected and ratified by additional government authorities irrespective of the physical state of the correspondent.
Díaz Hernández was a reporter for the Avileña Cooperative of Independent Journalists.
