GOVERNMENT SENTENCES FORMER OSS OFFICER TO 30 YEARS By Odalys Curbelo, Cuba Free Press.
HAVANA - The government has sentenced former Capt. Ernesto Borges Pérez, 32, of the Office of State Security to 30 years in prison for "high treason," according to sources close to his family. The trial was held in secret, not even his family being allowed to attend.
The ex-officer was tried January 14 in a military unit site at El Calvario in Havana. Considerable military deployment and control was observed at the same time. Authorities arrested the condemned shortly after his treason was committed, various sources report. He reportedly had been working in Dept. No. 1 of the OSS counterintelligence service.
Because of the special characteristics of his work, Borges Pérez has broad knowledge about the agency where he worked, so his confinement will not be ordinary.
Borges Pérez has a 5-year-old daughter and resided at No. 121 Cádiz Street between San Joaquín and Infanta streets in the capital municipality called El Cerro.
He was arrested July 17, apparently after trying to convey information to a foreign diplomat stationed in Havana.
