LETTER OF ACCEPTANCE BY RAUL RIVERO TO THE DIRECTOR GENERAL OF THE WORLD ASSOCIATION OF NEWSPAPERS (WAN) IN RESPONSE TO THE INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE AS A MEMBER OF THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE OF THE ASSOCIATION'S FUND FOR PRESS FREEDOM DEVELOPMENT
Mr. Timothy Balding, Director General
World Association of Newspapers
Dear Mr. Balding:
I received your communication via DHL on January 8. Certainly it will be an honor for me to be part of the prestigious Advisory Committee of the Fund for Press Freedom Development of the World Association of Newspapers.
I also believe that the recognition and the distinction that the World Association of Newspapers provides me for my modest participation on this committee will contribute to invigorate our small news agency and the cause of freedom of the press in our country.
We are part of the Cuban civil society that is beginning to expand and we are pledged to carry out journalism that is objective, honest, balanced and without any ideological mandate. We will try to keep the committee informed about the restrictions on freedom of the press in Cuba and share with the committee ideas about how to help advance freedom of the press in Cuba.
In my opinion, your invitation constitutes a recognition of our work and, at the same time, strengthens our decision to work for a free and professional media in our country.
Director of the independent news agency, Cuba Free Press
