FOUR OSS AGENTS ARREST DISIDENTS WHO PLANNED TO ATTEND TRIAL, RELEASE NARDO CRUZ By Héctor Cruz, Cuba Free Press.
HAVANA - Four plain-clothed agents of the Office of State Security (Seguridad del Estado) arrested three members of the Democratic Union of Workers of Cuba here in this capital on January 6.
The three arrested were José Orlando González Bridón, 45, president of the Union; María Ester Valdés Suárez, 34, member of the executive and María Ángela Suárez, 53, the delegate from San Miguel del Padrón.
The three prisoners were taken to the unit of the Technical Department of Investigations (DTI) in the municipality of San Miguel del Padrón.
María Ángela Suárez later was released and told this reporter, "I told them that I had my child alone in the house, and that I had to go. They replied that it was all right but that I was not to leave my home."
Later Suárez added, "The arrest was to prevent our attendance at the appellate hearing on Lázaro Constantín, in Havana's municipal court."
Constantín, a member of the Association of Independent Educators of Cuba (el Colegio de Pedagogos Independientes de Cuba), was arrested on Dec. 10 at the celebration on behalf of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Day , in the vicinity of Butari Park, in Lawton.
Meanwhile, during the early hours of today, our frequent collaborator in legal matters, Ofelia Nardo Cruz, lawyer, was released from prison.
