COURT SENTENCES POLITICALLY INCORRECT CRITIC TO THREE YEARS By Orlando Bordón Gálvez, Cuba Free Press.
HAVANA - While a crowd gathered outside, the municipal court of Old Havana on Dec. 16 sentenced politically incorrect Constantin Durán, 39, to three years in prison. He was charged with "dangerousness" to the regime. Only the prisoners' closest relatives were allowed to have access to the court room.
Outside, political police and paramilitary forces were mobilized ahead of the trial in Christ's Plaza as dozens of other politically incorrect people gathered quietly nearby along with independent journalists and foreign media representatives.
The four streets entering the plaza were closed off about 200 meters away so as to keep the politically incorrect at bay. Among them were Hugo Ernesto Diaz Navarro, activist of the Cotorro municipality here in Havana, and Lázaro González Valdés, independent journalist with the agency called True Cuba (Cuba Verdad).
The government forces were kept in place until hours after the condemned prisoners had left the court in a police car. Meanwhile, in Bernaza Street, political police arrested two Cuba Free Press reporters, Marvin Hernández Monzón and Orlando Bordón Gálvez. They were taken to the police station at Zanja and Dragones streets and released a few hours later.
