POLITICAL POLICE CONTINUE TO HARASS INDEPENDENT JOURNALISTS By Juan Antonio Sánchez, Cuba Free Press.
HAVANA - The political police continue to harass independent journalists Orlando Bordón Gálvez, 43, and Efrén Martínez Pulgarón, of the Cuba Free Press agency.
On the morning of Dec. 10, a Capt. Lázaro, agent of the Office of State Security (OSS), went to the home of Rodolfo González on the Ravelo farm and told him, "Bordón Gálvez is living here in your house and he is an independent journalist who is jeopardizing your situation."
González told the OSS agent that he was a long-time friend of Bordón Gálvez and he had invited the journalist to live there because he was going through some personal family problems and that the journalist's political ideas did not interfere with their friendship.
"Nevertheless," said the officer, "his remaining here will put you in jeopardy. Ask him to leave your home and if he is your friend he will understand."
In November, this reporter had been obliged by the political police to leave the home of another friend.
As for Martínez Pulgarón, he has been forced to leave a house that he rented along with his mother.
This forced displacement of independent journalists is a relatively new method that the political police are using to increase problems of those who are considered politically incorrect.
