SEVEN DEMONSTRATORS RELEASED AFTER TWO DAYS IN JAIL By Ricardo González Alfonso, Cuba Free Press.
HAVANA - All seven of the dissidents arrested during the Friday, November 27, melee in front of the People's Tribunal of Havana were released two days later, on Sunday. They were part of the demonstration of solidarity with the independent journalist, Mario Viera González, 59, who will be tried on charges of insulting a government official.
The seven were fined on charges of having taken part in a "public scandal," i.e., allegedly for having disturbed the peace. They were part of a 100 or so peaceful opponents of the regime who were attacked by troops of the Rapid Response Brigade.
Viera González is the head of the news agency called True Cuba and has been accused by José Peraza Chapeau, legal director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, of insulting him in an article entitled, "Morality in stocking feet," which was published electronically by Cubanet.
