SPOILED FOOD GIVES PRISONERS DIARRHEA IN ARIZA PRISON By Marvin Hernández Monzón, Cuba Free Press.
CIENFUEGOS - Outbreaks of diarrhea among prisoners in Ariza Prison, Cienfuegos province, have increased considerably as a result of the spoiled food served to them.
Information from the Political Prisoners' Historical Association said the spoilage is not due to prolonged time between preparation and serving. Instead, the food often arrives already spoiled from the refrigerators of the military kitchens or from a providing butcher.
The week of September 20-27, the dysentery spread to most of the prisoners, who were compelled to eat bad food because they felt starved. The authorities of Ariza were consulted and they denied knowing about the spoiled food and argued that the reason for the state of the food was due "to the addition of bananas to the meat".
They also gave assurance that measures had been taken to avoid recurrence of the problem. But on the same day as the above declaration, another bout of stomach problems spread after spoiled ground meat was given to the prisoners.
