COMMUNIST CHIEFTS AUGMENTING IDEOLOGICAL PURIFICATION By Héctor Trujillo Pis, Cuba Free Press.
CAIBARIEN - Local Communist Party authorities, according to information reaching this correspondent, have created a commission that visits different neighborhoods to advise who among their inhabitants may be allowed to have UHF antennae. It seems that these antennae have the capacity to capture signals from foreign television transmitters. Those who are not given permission must take down their antennae and take them to the local Party office.
If the forbidden antennae are not delivered to the office within a 72-hour period designated by the Party, the Party will send someone to confiscate the offending items and fine their owners 1,000 pesos per antenna.
According to José Manuel Guerrero, one of those affected by the new regulation, the officials explained that the action was taken because UHF antennae of high frequency can pick up signals from such foreign stations as TV Channel 23 of Miami and could cause "ideological deformations in the populace."
